Abstract

A society thrives on dialogue, rational public deliberation, negotiation, compromise, consensus. But this requirement for consensus cannot be indifferent to differences, that is to say, to spaces of heterogeneity or “dissensus”. To think correctly, we must situate the agonistic dynamic of politics between consensus and pluralism, giving consensus pride of place.
